Trump says he won’t release tax returns in response to court ruling

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday he won�t release his tax returns to the public and said he would only release his returns to his legal team.

Trump made the remarks after a hearing in federal court in Washington, D.C., in a lawsuit challenging the president�s executive order on travel from seven Muslim-majority nations.

He said his lawyers would present the case to the Supreme Court.

The president said the order is unconstitutional and he�s not going to allow it to go forward.

�I’m going to take it up with my legal team,� he said.

At the time, Trump was facing a series of lawsuits filed by individuals who allege he violated their constitutional rights by blocking immigration from countries with high levels of terrorism.

As president, Trump has argued that he has the authority to block refugees from entering the United States based on national security concerns, and he has said he will do so, even after a court struck down his order.

Trump and his lawyers have argued the order, which Trump signed in March, is constitutional and that his attorneys should have the ability to challenge it.

In a ruling issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson said that if the president were to withdraw his order and allow a review, it would be unconstitutional because it would violate the Constitution.
